Glockophile
I just bought a new tree called the Autumn Fantasy Maple, and did not have much info on it except it is a cross between a Red Maple and a Silver maple. If anyone knows some about this Maple please share what you know. Thank you very much!I guess I would like to know all about them but in particular does it produce helicopters like others (not includung the Autumn Blaze and other seedless varities)? Powerstroke
The autumn fantasy is not considered seedless, but the site I found listed it as rarely producing seeds. Here's what they had.Autumn Fantasy’ has larg leaves with deep ruby red fall color. Reaches 45-50’ tall and 35-40’ wide with a broad rounded crown producing dense shade. Will thrive in average soil and prefers moist conditions but will tolerate drought very well. Very adaptable. Hardy in zones 3-9. Rarely produces seeds. Steve Foss
I found several sources of info on this cultivar. Only one mentioned flowering, and said only male flowers are produced, so there are no helicoptering seeds. Some say Zone 3 for northernmost hardiness zone, some say Zone 4. Either way, you are fine. All sources seem to indicate the tree favors lighter soils that are slightly alkaline, so again you should be OK in Alex. It likes water but tolerates drought conditions. New leaves have some green, some red on them, turning green with maturity and ruby red in fall. Sounds like a lot of fun, and a pretty new variety. Even the U of M Extension Service has no info on their Web site. Keep us posted, and WE LOVE PICS!
