2 24v trolling motors on same batteries

TopwaterTom21

Question

I have a bow mounted 24v trolling motor and am looking to buy a 24v transom mount trolling motor but don't want 2 more batteries in the boat. Can you run some kind of cables from the transom mount motor to the front and use the bow batteries for the transom motor as well? If so, what kind of cables or extensions do you need? Is there a certain brand that people use? Both my motors would be Minn Kota. Thanks for your help!

You can run them off of the same batteries without any issue other. You'll just need to extend the wires from the transom motor; hook them up the same as the bow motor. (there is no need for another jumper.) Buy a small roll of a thick gauge(~6ga) of wire because of the distance to the batteries, splice the wires together and put battery terminals on and you'll be set. Also, don't forget to fuse the positive connection as usual. I like the auto-resetting breakers for the trolling motors.

rather than splicing the wires, why would you not use an insulated post to terminate the ends? this would give you an access point, a secure mount, and less likely to cause problems if the wires were to break the splice. You can mount it anywhere, put your eyelets on the wire, install on post, cover to protect.
