ripper
I have a 50 MinnKota V2 motor that cuts out, guessing from overheating? I have a fuseless 50Amp circuit breaker that will sometimes trip but not alway? I will lose all power and then will kick back on, off etc. It's a bow mount with a 2 pin plug up front that does feel quite warm and the breaker and wire at the battery is very warm too. It would make sense that the motor would lose power when the breaker trips but why does it even if the breaker doesn't always trip? Just with the overheating, does the motor "sense" that? Should i get a new larger breaker of do you think possibly the plug is bad? Not sure on wire gauge but it's the same size as the plug wiring? Any help would be appreciated! DaMoose
I think that the main wire gauge is to small. I am guessing the the gauge on the plug is 12 or 14, where as the wires going to the battery should be 6 or 8 gauge. I have a 70# thrust minnkota 24V and only run a 50amp breaker and have had no problems, I have 6 gauge wire running from the battery to the plug. Tom7227
I'm not an expert but the first thing to consider is whether you have the proper gauge wire as noted by DaMoose. Next would be to make sure that your connections are secure and not corroded. Finally check to see if the connections to the battery and clean and tight. You may want to take some light sandpaper and clean up the connectors and brush up the battery terminals. Beyond these items I can't give much direction. Northlander
Take the prop off and check to make sure its clean of line etc.
