righty lefty?

Just got a message from my nephew who says he is left eye dominant and shoots right handed. He was wondering if he should start shooting left handed or what? He is 18 so retraining him to lefty could be pretty easy....

This is pretty common among target shooters, who simply wear an eye patch to solve the problem.

In the world of hunting, an eye patch is a poor solution, IMHO.

My daughter is left-eye dominant, but a natural righty for everything else. I got her a Browning BPS (works right or left), and she adjusted fairly quickly to shooting left-handed.

My advice is to have him start shooting left-handed. In the heat of battle, the eye dominance thing can really screw up shooting if you try to play games with closing one eye or such in an effort to keep shooting righty.

I shoot pistol and bow left handed. I shoot rifle/shotgun right handed. I write w/ my left and use scissors w/ my right. I throw left, bat and golf right handed. I kick my w/ my right and punch w/ my left.

I cast w/ my left and reel my baitcasters w/ right right. I like to cast spinning gear with my left and reel w/ my left. I cast my fly rod w/ my left and strip line w/ my right. I know, I know.....I cant figure it out either.

I messed up my shoulder when I was like 1 year old......maybe that's got something to do with it

Depends on what he is shooting. If it is a handgun no problem, tilt the head slightly and sight using the dominant eye. I shoot handguns competitively and you often see that. I'm with Jackpine Bob, with a long gun someone at a younger age, such as your nephew would be better served learning to shoot off handed. Older shooters that will have difficulty learning to shoot off hand often use a patch, an opaque one is best so that the dominant eye takes over without totally blocking the vision in the other eye. At his age it should be no problem to learn to shoot lefty!

Training him to shoot lefty shouldn't be much of a problem, I occasionaly shoot that way just for practice. Biggest problem is shell ejection unless he buys a lefthanded gun, and they are not very common.

However, I see multiple people at the trap range shoot left handed with right handed guns, doesn't seem to bother them much.

If you cant get them to switch just use some scotch tape over the lens. I'm right handed right eye dominate but when I shoot trap as I'm swinging my left takes over and all I can see is the left side of the rib a little tape takes care of it.

WOW BMC messed up I guess and I thought I had it bad cause I can't see out of my left eye and my right leg is gone also I'm missing three fingers on my right hand and two on the left and I'm also deaf in my right ear Oh did I tell you my nick name was Lucky

the fishing is easily explained

so manny baitcaster come in right hand only wich bothers me alot... you must have a right hand retrieve baitcasters wich causes you to cast with your left and reel with the right and when you switch to spinning reel they most commonly come in left hand retrieve so you end up casting with the left and use your stronger right golfing arm to your advantage to fight fish or because the handles on the left wich forces you to use the right to grip and maybe also because thats how u cast the baitcasters, but what some people dont realize is pretty much all spinning reels can be reversed to wich ever side you want to retrieve with, just move the handle to the other side.

i dont understand that most people are right handed but they make most baitcasters retrieve right handed but we need our more coordinated stronger right hand to cast and fight fish and yet they make the baitcaster with a right hand retrieve and most spinning reels come out of the factory with a left handed retrieve so we can use our dominant right hand to our advantage but why is the baitcaster sometimes not to our advantage? I just hate having to buy a dif baitcaster because the one i wanted only comes in right hand retireve........ this is why so manny pros i see on tv that use baitcasters cast with the right then have to switch hands to reel with the right..... just bugs me!

as for the rest of your issues i think your just complex or a funny guy lol
