do spinners work for bass?

They sure do. They work much better on cloudy or rainy days though when bass aren't holding as close to structure. Bass tend to bump it once before striking, so if you feel the blades stop spinning, give them a little pop and fish will often come back and take it.

Thats one of the best pike lures ever, I cant belive you have had bad luck pike fishing with one. Try putting a trailer, like a small gulp worm on it or a mr twister, then work the weed edges and above submerged weeds, you should be catching pike on that lure. Oh yah, bass like em too.

I haven't had much luck with inline spinners for bass, though they do hit it.

That said, there was one day this year when I was pike fishing with a mepps "musky killer" (#5 blade inline spinner with a heavily bucktail-dressed treble).. the big LMB were ALL OVER the thing! I caught just as many bass as pike that day.

I fish the same spots regularly with the same mepps spinner and except for that one day the bass have left the spinner alone.

I've also used the same spinner in canada with no bass luck, but the smallies FOLLOW the darn thing on every cast. If I'd brought a much smaller spinner I would have tried it, but you can't bring EVERY POSSIBLE size and color of every lure on a trip unfortunately.

Much like pike, it seems that the bass are either going to be turned way on or turned completely off when it comes to non-food lures like spinners.

#2 aglia plain hook blaze orange. Can't even count how many bass both smallies and largemouth have fell to that one. Its a bit smaller than some but sometimes I think that really helps when the fish are.more tight lipped. Its a good way to cover a lot of water and still get fish that might not bite a regular bass spinnerbait.

I use mepps spinners about 50% of the time when I'm fishing for smallies. I pretty much have 1 in every color. Pike like them alot too, although when I'm targeting them, I use bigger blue fox spinners. Actually, just about all species of fish like spinners, but aside from smallies and pike, other fish I've caught regularly are...largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, green sunfish, stream trout, perch, rock bass, and walleye.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
