JIvers
OK, I'm tired of high water and rain in southeast Iowa. Between the high water on the Iowa River and working bad hours for the summer I am barely getting any fishing in at all. When I do get out on some off-current areas I can pick up some channel cat, flathead, and carp, but the fishing is not spectacular. I have not been able to fish the Mississippi for walleye around Muscatine or the Quad Cities yet this summer. There is way too much current barreling down to fish the wing dams. If this continues I may have to fish some of the local ponds for largemouth and bluegill, which on open water is rock bottom for me! Or I could try Macbride, but the mid-summer bite on there can be challenging. Stupid rain. OK, I'm done ranting.
delmuts
You might as well keep ranting! It is getting worse. We're not even certain how much rain we have gotten in the last few days.( the neighbors rain gauge was over filled with water) Thursday night and early friday morning we got 6-8 in. There is flooding every where, and it will all be heading to the south and east!
JIvers
And the rain just keeps coming...At least we haven't had to deal with serious flooding around Iowa City--the Ames area and Lake Delhi have been hit bad.
JIvers
Finally--the Iowa River is dropping to what are normal (low) water levels for the summer...in late August. Now if the Mississippi down here would follow suit, I might make it on there before November... JacksonH20Fowl
And.... the river is up again.........
JIvers
Still waiting for the Mississippi from Bellevue to Muscatine to reach close-to-normal water levels. At the rate it's dropping now, I may be hitting Guttenberg or Dubuque some time in November.
JIvers
What a difference two years makes! River levels in southeast Iowa are fine for fishing right now, but we could sure use some rain. Planted fields look powder-dry, and lawns are turning crispy and brown before June 1. What rain SE Iowa has gotten the last few weeks has mostly missed the Iowa City area, but it sounds like we are in for a good soaking tonight and tomorrow.
