Condition of Roads to Dryden?

Recommended Posts

Heading up to Souix Lookout on Friday. I heard 502 was under construction. Wondering how much of it? How long are the delays? Also, how about 71 to Kenora and then over to Dryden? Last time I got directed to take 71 instead of 502 there was road construction there as well, and it took even longer than we thought.

Any input from folks who have just returned from there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

According to Outfitter17, 71 is clear. The 502 has some delays around 20-30 minutes depending on what time you hit it. Outfitter17 said that anytime after 6, you should be clear of the delays on the 502. Of course, from my experience, anytime after 6 is prime moose time. Delays are a pain, but as a two times a year 502 trekker, I appreciate the work that they put into that road. It has come a long, long way since the first time I took it.

I got supplies today and in just 6 days the construction crew has torn up the 10 miles of old 502 that I use before I turn off on the cedar narrow rd. Approx. 1/2 of it is already repaved, so I am guessing the next half will be done within 2 days at the pace they are going right now. I'm not sure how much past the cedar they are working on, but if it is 20-30 miles I would guess they will be done in the next 2-3 weeks at this pace.

It's nice to see a crew that can get some work done. I was anticipating it taking until late fall, but they are really moving. The last time a section of the 502 was worked on in my area, it took all summer and they really didn't get much accomplished.
