Question

Can someone explain to me how to adjust the pins for the brake. I have had the reel for a couple of years and recently had a terrible time with backlash. I have ordered new rubber stops and will install but will need to adjust.

Thanks for the input, I have looked on line for a owners manual to get an explanation but have not located the directions.

If the pins are slid out from the center, there will be more braking and it will stop the spool sooner.

If the pins are slid in toward the center, there won't be as much braking and the spool will spin easier.

Make sure you adust the pins so the opposite pin is set the same way, to keep the spool balanced. All pins out would be best if you're backlashing, but if you slide some pins in, make sure you do the pins on the opposite side of the spool to keep it balanced.

The pins by themselves are not going to fix your backlash issues.

The spool tension knob on the outside of the reel near the crank is going to do much more to help you. Each time you change lures, adjust the spool tension so that the weight of the lure just barely pulls line off the spool --- or tighten it even more so it doesn't pull any line off the spool. As you get better at casting you can go with less spool tension but you will risk more backlashes.

Bingo...good explanation of the settings PerchJerker.

If I may add, if you set 3 pins out, at 1/3 spacing...as in every 4th pin in a 12 pin set up...it is a good place to start. If that proves too much go to 2 pins out each apposing.

Your primary spool tension overrun adjustment is the critical factor to diminish overruns, remember to set it after changing each lure. In windy conditions, set it a bit tighter, that will help too.
