Scott M
A friend of mine moved out there, what's the scoop on fishing and hunting?
SportFishin'
Plenty of good fishing on the river for Cats & Eyes. There is also a little lake called Castle Rock down in Colstrip,MT loaded with Walleye,Pike,Crappie, & Blue Gills. There is more hunting than you can shake a stick at out here in MT. Whitetail along the rivers, Muleys in the Hills, Elk south of Miles City, Upland birds all over( Pheasant, Sharptail Grouse, Huns, & Chukar) I suggest going to the FWP's HSOforum and sign up for all the BMA Region books that print & mail in Aug. Then when you get the books you can look at what Game landowners allow you to hunt. Ea ranch is numbered in these books. Then you call the FWP with the selected numbers of the BMA maps you want and they mail you up to five maps a day "FREE" to your home. These maps will give you the contact numbers for the Type II BMA which requires a call ahead for dates & permission for when you want to hunt. The Type I BMA's are "Sign-In" at the gate for permission but may be limited to the # of hunters per day. My experience so far is that the Type II BMA's are the less pressured ones because no one ever bothers to call for permission. If your planning a waterfowl trip. Plan it for later in the season like late November into December all the ducks and geese spend most of the winter along the Yellowstone plus the season goes into Jan. But for that kind of trip plan on bringing regular Camo & Snow Camo. It is always hit or miss if there will be snow or not?Regards,Chris
