Lowrance LCX 15MT Updates

Northdrifter08

Question

Recently I acquired a Lowrance LCX 15MT Sonar/Gps combo.. The person who owned prior to me never did any of the updates so I went to the lowrance HSOforum and did as the Product update page stated.... I looked up the ver. on the unit and it was ver. 2.05... I turned on the unit and it and from what I read it should take the update 3.06 from the web page.. I downloaded it from the HSOforum to an 256mb MMC and then turned off the unit.. I put the card in and turned on the unit.. nothing happened.. at least not anything I know of... Ive tried two different cards and nothing seems to happen (the second card was 512mb... said on HSOforum won't read cards larger than 512)... I checked the version and it still comes up 2.05, so nothing has took...

Am I doing something wrong? crazy What should I expect when I turn the unit on with the updated chip in it... (at the present it just goes to the screen I have set... 1/2 Sonar and 1/2 gps....) I did do a soft reset once and tried again nothing...Do I have to wait for the upload? confused

Any suggestions... I tried an older Navionics Hotspots 16mb Hotspot MMC and it won't read it...??... said it compatible...??? crazy

Any suggestions...??? I do have the MapCreate 6 CD...

I would be willing to pay someone to update my graph if needed... I live in the Bemidji MN area... I went to a local marine dealership on the "Corner" and they wouldn't help or even offer advice frown... The sonar works fine and the gps keeps a great log... no detail thus I want the update and able to read old cards...

Thanks in advance for advice... or contact me if you would be able to help me program and update in person...

The first thing you need to verify is if your lcx 15 can read / write to your memory cards. Simplest way to do this is to transfer a waypoint from the unit to the card, and from the card to the unit. If it works you can move on to the next step, if it doesn't work then you've isolated the problem.

If I read your post correctly it sounds like your 15 won't read a map card that it should be reading??? That indicates a problem with the card reader in the unit ......

To answer your other question, the update on the card should start automatically after you put the card in the 15 and turn the 15 on. If it doesn't start automatically then there are steps to start it manually, and they should be laid out on the Lowrance HSOforum.

Good luck getting it working.

Try a different SD card, some off the shelf SD data cards do not play well in Lowrance units. Do the update on a different card and see if it takes that time.

A "Lexar" 2 Gig card will definitely do it...I use them daily for software updates. If you do not have one already you just as well get the 2 gig card in the SD/Micro Adapter version as you will eventually need one for something. $14

Did you download the file to your computer, open it, then transfer to the card? If the file is an .exe, you need to do this first, then transfer it to the card. I missed this step when I did mine. Once I opened the file then transferred it, I put it in the unit and it took off and updated in a few seconds.
