Cooter
Any recommendations on a vise for holding large muskie sized hooks and coils? Thanks.
delmuts
I'm not shure about coils, but to sharpen my big trebles i place them in a bench vise between two small pcs. of wood.
mainbutter
Are you looking for a fly tying vise?
Wildabeast
Weld a rod to a pair of vice grips
Cooter
I've thought of the vise grip option and might give it a whirl. Basically looking for a 'fly tying vise', probably a clamp on style, but need it to handle up to 7/0 trebles.
delmuts
I would do some web searching for salt water fly suppliers. They may offer one in a bigger size.
gunnr
I just bought a cheap fly tying vise for about $10 - don't remember where. It's big enough to hold one hook of the treble (5/0). If I'm doing coils, I use a 3" piece of .051 wire with a loop and couple of wraps on the one end. I know some guys also use a small allen wrench for coils. Hopes this helps. Cooter
Welcome to HSO gunnr! So with the coils you are clamping the .051 wire in the vise and then putting the coil over that?
gunnr
I slide the wire through the coil so the cut end of the wrap butts up against the cut end of the coil (to keep the coil from spinning on the wire) and then clamp it in the vise. I'd post a picture but I aint figured that out yet!
