I am a first generation fisherman. I love to fish cats. I live close to pool 6 and was wondering if anyone else here does also. I am a wisc resident and was wondering if bullheads are "legal" bait for us. I like cut suckers but am always looking to expand my fishing skills as min as they are. We are thinking of going all night sunday. This forum rules and thanks in advance for everything. I do have a boat but never took it out at night and might just do bank fishing.

Interesting....I am moving across the river to WI next week!..............so the way I understand what is being said..when I get a WI fishing license, I can then legally use sunfish for bait?

Where did you find this info?? I just read through the entire WI Fishing Regs book, and didn't see anything about it??

Maybe it doesnt say anything in the wisconsin regs book because it is legal.

I know the line in the MN book says something like "it is unlawful to use all or part of any gamefish as bait"

does it say anything like that in the WI book? I always thought people with a WI license could use sunfish as bait but to be honest ive never read the regs because I have a MN license. Thinking of getting a WI out of state license next year though because I do 99% of my fishing on the River anyway.

Nope! or not that I could find. I found no mention of any types of fish being used as bait, except minnows. I really like this idea for using bluegills as bait, and I even think I have heard of it being done before. But......I"m the type of guy that likes to play it safe, and see it in writing before doing.

WI has more liberal laws in what you can use for bait, but more restict laws in how you can transport them.

I cannot tell you the exact laws, but maybe someone from WI here will chime in.
