Brake Advice for Ford

Recommended Posts

Just replaced my front pads on my expedition with new ceramic pads. The rotors were only worn down .030 so I left them on. Will these new pads give off a little "odor" during the break-in period? I drove it down the road a couple times at 45 and hit the brakes about 8 times. Also after bleeding the front brakes I'm still getting it to go to the floor, would it be wise to bleed the rear as well even though their on a seperate line?

Thanks for the help everyone!!!!

What year?

If your vehicle was not originally equipped with ceramic pads and you installed true ceramic pads they will not work as well as the o.e. pads. True ceramic pads require more braking force to work.

Why did you bleed the brakes? How are you bleeding the brakes?

Did the pedal go to the floor before you bled the brakes?

2004

Rears are disc also.

I'm bleeding them by cracking the valve while the wife pushes down on the pedal and closing just before reaching bottom.

As far as going to the floor...I've never tried it. Just normal daily driving, I've never had to "mash" it all the way.

I just put new ceramics all the way around on my 04 Silverado about a month back, and there was a smell from the pads initially as well. I thought I had a stuck caliper at first, but it just must have been from the initial pad seating/break in as everything checked out fine and it hasn't happened since.
