2000 explorer misfire

Recommended Posts

ive got a 2000 ford explorer 4.0 liter v6 OHV. last week, i started it up in the morning, and intantly there was a misfire. drove it a bit, and check engine light came on and would flash if i was on the gas. plugged a scanner into it, and it showed cylinder 4 misfire. well, in december, i put new plugs and wires in it. i went to check what i thought was number 4, and i noticed a burn in the plug wire where spark was arcing out. so i thought i found the problem, right? replaced the plug wires, and checked #4 plug. plug looked fine. but now, it still has a misfire, and the check engine light doesnt come on no matter how hard i stomp on the gas. a buddies dad is a mechanic, and he got me a print out of the firing/cylinder order with the coil, and this didnt help. thought maybe i screwed plug wires, but i know i put them on the same way they came off. im guessing i need at least one new plug. the firing order my buddies dad gave me was no where near the same as how they(plug wires) came off. whats up??

COIL Cylinders

is this order right?? this is the print out i recieved, and its not how the plug wires came off. should i replace all the plugs? or, what are you thinking. thanks!

ps, the plug wire that was arcing through was the #5 cylinder according to the print out, but i thought that cylinder was called #4??

The cylinders on the passenger side 1,2,3 1 being the front, drivers side is 4,5,6 4 being the front. The wires coming off the coil should be marked on the coil. The 1,2,3, side are in order, the 4,5,6 side are not. The wire next to 1 is 5, the wire next to 2 is 6, and the wire next to 3 is 4. I hope that is clear? If not I could email you the info.

It looks as though you have the correct inf.

so essentially, that broken plug wire wasnt the issue? its fixed though, the wires that is, and the #4 cylinder may just have a bad plug, since the scanner said misfire #4?
