No Brake Lights?

Recommended Posts

2003 Dodge Ram 1500

3rd brake light works

Turn signals work.

Right and Left Brake Lights do not work.

Checked fuse block under the hood.

Could not see brake or stop lights on list.

Pulled and checked all fuses in fuse block under hood (all checked out fine)

Replaced bulbs in Right and Left Brake Lights with known good tested bulbs.

I had some "questionable" trailer wiring so I cut all that off at the source wires. Currently there is no trailer wiring connected.

Any ideas?

Is there a fuse for the stop/brake lights somewhere I didn't look?

Thanks

Sounds like a bad turn signal switch. sometimes you can wiggle the lever and get them to work intermittently to confirm. Unfortunately I don't have any wiring diagrams in front of me but I peek at them later and give you some idea on what wires to check in and out of the turn signal switch. Unless somebody beats me to it.

should also be a fuse block near the left knee of the driver. if you pull that panel off, there is a box in there too. also does your dash give you a warning when there is a bulb out? one thing with the dodge lights are to makes sure you are using some dielectric grease on the socket. if you have a test light, you can check the circuit at the bulb socket. good luck

It could be that too....

Thinking about it, of course it has to be.... a new turn signal switch costs more than a fuse. lol!!

That is the way it goes with vehicles sometimes.

Unless you find a bad connection (unlikely) you will need to plan a trip to your local dodge dealer. The lighting is controlled by the IPM (integrated power module). If it detects a fault it will shut down and need to be "turned back on" with a dodge scan tool.

The turn signal switch is not a part of problem on this one since all it does is supply a resistance reading to let the IPM know what is going on. We know the brake switch is working because the high mount is working so we also know that fuse is good. There are no other fuses for the brake lamp circuit other than the power supply to the front control module which is part of the IPM. If that fuse was blown than there would be no turn signals as well.

It sounds like I should have been happy that it could have been the turn signal switch.

The IPM sounds even more expensive. :dohh:
