fuel gauge

I have an 2005 alumacraft 175 navigator and the fuel gauge does not work. when I turn the key on, it goes all the way to 3/4 of a tank; when i shut it off, it goes back to E, but nothing in between. Could a float be stuck? if so, can i "unstick it????"

It sounds to me like your sender might be stuck; follow the instructions for locating your sender and pull it out, and see how it's working. They're pretty simple things.
