I ended up hitting Long lake because my friend caught one out there bass fishing earlier in the week. We raised two fish today. I was very surprised at the lack of weeds in the lake. The rock bars seemed to be the only structure I could find to fish. We did find a bay that had weeds which ended up producing one of the follows and a couple big gar sightings. Also saw three 20+inch smallmouth swimming.

Has anyone else fished this lake?

I've fished it, clear water, low light was really the only time anything other than pike would move for us. The lack of weeds is due to rusty crayfish IIRC.

I was on the other end of the spectrum. Stuck fishing in the land of curly-leaf pondweed, the only fishing options were topwater and really burning bucktails. I chose the latter and have the blisters to prove it despite only 5 hours of musky fishing (relatives at the cabin make it difficult to hit muskie waters). Got one about 34 inches that had a well timed flip to escape as I lifted it out of the net. Oh well, just a little guy. Better him than a big fish. Had one other boatside strike by another smallish fish. As stated curly-leaf pondweed makes life difficult, can't wait until it dies.
