Voltage on MinnKota Trolling Motor

Hey guys, question I'm presenting for my brother. He has a boat with a MinnKota that is a 1996 model year. However, we cannot figure out the voltage. It looks like the present day Maxxum with the cable steering, however the head on the motor is white. It is listed as 48lbs. of thrust, yet nothing indicating the voltage. We hooked it up to 12 volts and it didn't spin fast and didn't idicate the level of charge. (Same thing I've seen when only getting 12 volts for a 24 volt motor.) We don't want to hook up to 24 and cook it. I know most, if not all, of today's 48lbs are 12 volt.

Maybe you could find the model and/or serial number on the unit and check their HSOforum for specifications.

I'd do like Bob recommended... based on the era and the thrust it sure sounds like a 12V to me though.
