registering wheel house as R.V

Have any of you registered your Home built wheel house as a R.V if so how difficult was it?

I just registered mine at the local dmv. told them i want to register a home built wheel house under 3000 lbs. cost me about $70 and got a life time license

I think the determining factors between getting a permanent license and having to renew your license tabs each year is the weight and if you can sleep in it or not.

I told the DMV mine was under 3000 lb, but that I did have bunks and they said it had to be registered as an RV and I have to renew the tabs on it each year. I did mine a few years ago back when the requirement was first made and it was quite a pain. Nobody knew how to do it back then. Hopefully they've learned by now.

When I registered mine I was told if it was under 3000lbs I could sleep in it when ice fishing and put on a permanent license. But if I used it as a camper to sleep in during the summer or at any other time I would have to register it as a RV with plates. This was a couple of years ago.

When I bought my Ice Castle(2900 lbs and two bunks) last year I was told that if I used it strictly for ice fishing I could get the permanent license. If I used it any other time of the year for camping on the weekend or deer camp or whatever I had to have the RV plate.

thanks guys. I was just curios as to how many hoops I was going to have to jump through to register it as r.v since it will get used in the summer and fall as well.

Sounds like I could have had mine registered with a permanent license instead of renewing tabs every year. They still didn't know what they were doing.

The other thing is the tax you will have to pay. The state will want their piece of the pie and will require taxes on what you paid for it. If you built it yourself, I think you may have to provide receipts to show that you already paid taxes on all the parts (at least that's what I had to do on the Hennipin County DMV).
