Sealing a concrete driveway

Recommended Posts

I had a concrete driveway installed about 6 years ago. It was never sealed. I notice that the surface has started to crumble. Should it have been sealed in some way? Can I seal it now? What with? Thanks for any help.

Hey something we just did yesterday. When you pour fresh crete you can seal it after 28 days according to the manufacturer, although we seal it after it is trolled and you can walk on it without leaving marks. In your case you will have to get some cleaner to get the dirt and oil stains out, some ACID Magic will work. Get it at ACE. As for the sealer you can get that at a concrete joint. You can use a cheap pump sprayer. It is best not to spray to heavy as it will yellow. It sounds like your crete is spaling from the road salt. The sealer is not cheaps though, and i've only seen it in 5 gallon pails. Hope this helps.

waska, what results are you expecting? how bad is the surface all of it ,or just where you drive in and out? you should clean it be very careful with acid products if you pour it on and it fizzes or smokes youre way to hot ,i would just use some dawn dish soap and a stiff bristle broom to scrub it rinse and let dry ,then for sealer you want to use a penetrating type that etches right into the surface it will turn it yellowish for a while but it clear up in time be it is not cheap 138.00 for 5 gal.just dont expect a miracle though its still gonna look the same all youre gonna do is extend the life of youre slab and yes all concrete should be sealed as soon as the surface is walkable without marring it. i recommend kure and seal from sonneborne for fresh concrete ,conspec makes a good penetrating sealer stay away from thomson s that is generic stuff.
