cedar lake crappie tournament? faribault

Recommended Posts

I did get this one confused with another tournament, but it looks like we're talking about the same one this time!

The tournament starts with a pancake breakfast at LeMeuix's Resort on the north side of Cedar. 8:30 am Report in time and the fishing starts at 9:30

Teams of two anglers, one at least 18. Entry fee is $65/boat. Tournament is limited to 50 teams. (When I registered I got boat/team number 34, so with some luck there is room?).

Sponsored by the Cannor River Sportsmen's Club. I can email you the contact name and number; just didn't think he's like it posted.

Never fished the lake before so if you have any advice other than "follow the boats" I'd appreciate it!

You can email me at [email protected]

Looks like its gonna be a challenge on Saturday with the cold coming through. Gonna take the boat and both of the boys out today, maybe just to Madison and work the kinks out...maybe the warm day will bring in the crappies this evening.

Struck out yesterday! Used Gulp, waxies, jigs and even a nightcrawler but could not make anything nibble! It was just a good test to make sure the boat was tuned for tomorrow anyway, but still.

Suggestions for Cedar Crappies? I think it will be a quiet day for the contest and not a lot of fish, but we can hope!!

my nephew caught a few yesterday 1 big one 13" . he doesent know the area where we caught em the last two years real well. I tried to tell him over the phone but I could tell he was not in the correct location .

Last year just a gulp 1.5 in grub cast and reeled. was the ticket they wouldn't touch a float.

the spot I was going to tell you about was busy I guess but I will still email with details.

48 teams attended, it was a strong northwest wind that blew in some drizzle and even sleet a few times. Of the 48 teams, 11 were skunked and about the same number maxed the 15 fish per boat limit.

9 Fish were over 1 lb, 6 of those were released.

The kid and I only found 3 smaller fish in about 26 FOW. Water temp was pretty much at 53 wherever we went, shallow or over deeper water. Marked a lot of fish in the north west side but didn't have the right presentation for their finicky taste evidently.

All in all, it could have been better for us, but my 10 year old could have thrown in the towel with the weather like it was at times; but after we got in the truck after trailering the boat, he looked at me and said, "Well? I had fun!!" So it was all worth it.

First tourney for us and we learned a lot so we'll be back again!

Thanks for all the tips and advice everyone!

I believe the law states you can't cull once your livewell contains a limit.

hence, why the rules stated 5 under the two person per boat limit. To avoid any confusion and keep it legal. but do not qoute me is suggested to look at the regulations and interperate it for oneself. no culling is permissable by law in the winter however.

Luckycrank you are right you can cull as long as you haven't reached your possesion limit. There was a huge debacle at the walleye tournment on German last summer The team culled when they had already reached thier 2 posseion limit on walleye or 20" and they let one go when they caught a bigger one.
