Toyota Air Conditioning

Recommended Posts

Man I love the internet!

I found the answer and posting here in case it happens to someone else with a Toyota

So I recently noticed that my A/C light was blinking on my '03 4-Runner. So, I check the manual and it says, "If light is blinking, bring to service center"

Well of course I had to do a Google search first, because the $ signs were already ringing in my head, (think compressor).

Well it turns out that there is a faulty relay and Toyota issued a TSB for it. Better yet, you can take it out, clean it up a bit, bang it on something hard, put it back in and it works again! grin

I'll probably just pick up a new one (about $40) as it will fail again most certainly, but just thought I'd post the tip here as I know there are a lot of Toyotas on the road with this bad relay.

Although this form of repair was pioneered by Ford Motor Company it can be adapted for all makes and models! grin

Darren, If you pop off the plastic cover you will see one of two things. Burnt up relay contacts that can be cleaned with your wife's emery nail file (she won't mind) or you will see cracked solder joints which can be reflowed with a soldering iron.

Or you can just replace it.

I have a 4runner too, hopefully I won't every have to use it but thanks for the tip.

My father in law had his newer Ford Ranger parked for about a year becuase the battery kept dieing, in about 10 minutes with the help of google and 2 shots of WD40 he was back in buisness. I love telling people that story.

I'm guessing the wd-40 was used to free something that was stuck open or closed and unknowingly drawing power, even with the ignition off.

Yes, sorry I probalby should have described it in my original post. The door ajar light was on all the time so I typed "ford ranger door ajar switch" into google and right away found instructions on how to quick fix it.

My father-in-law who was born and raised on the iron range and is not very computer savy was very impressed that I could get that kind of info off the internet.

I wonder though, when he's talking to his buddies up on da range does he tell them "my son in law from the cities fixed it for me in about 2 minutes using the computer" or is it just "oh yea I fixed that problem". wink
