gman2002
when i uncovered my boat yesterday i noticed a black spot on the ground under the lower unit, i'm thinking oh great , i did change the lower unit last fall . so i got all my stuff and starting filling the lower unit up again but when i unscrewed the lower screw it seemed a little loose , so i figured that could be the prob.so when i filled it again i noticed lower unit oil start to drip out of the exhaust port a little bit ,does anyone know if this is normal or do i have a problem somewhere . any info would be great
marine_man
Are you sure it's lower unit oil?If it's a black spot that smells like a mixture of gas & oil it's more than likely unburnt gas & oil mixture or left over fogging fluid. If it's clean oil that's coming out of the hub, then I'd say it's time for a trip to the shop for a lower unit leak test.marine_man
gman2002
my bad, it's not coming out the exhaust , its coming out of the water intake where you put the mufflers on . still bring it in or is the normal ?
boatfixer
Is it black and stinky? It wont be unburned gas oil mix because its a 4 stroke, but it could have been over fogged.

boatfixer
A little water may have been trapped in water pump base and pushed out the seals. I've seen that happen a few times on yamahas. What ever the cause, it needs to be looked at soon.
