Gordie
A buddy has a 2007 merc fifty 2 stroke and when you hook up the battery the tilt goes up and stays on constantly and if you hit the down or up switch on the motor or throttle it stops it all together. any Ideas of what it could be. I'm guessing its one of the relays. anys to test those easy. Thanks
Gordie
A buddy ofmine has a 2007 50hp merc,2 stroke and when you hook up the battery the only thing that happens is the tnt goes up and thats all the motor does turn over and if you push the down button it stops everything. could it be a relay and if you think so is there an easy way to check them. Thanks
Phred52
There should be 2 relays if I recall correctly, 1 for up and 1 for down. The easiest way is to just swap their positions and if, it only goes down, there is your most likely culprit. Phred52
Valv
Could it be possible that one of the 2 switches (1 on motor and 1 on remote handle) is stuck or it's bad ? Might want to check on that before tearing anything apart. Try disconnecting the main motor harness (big fat black cable) than hook up battery, if motor still goes up it could be the switch inside cowl. LMITOUT
Does this only happen when the power is applied? Does it work normal after it goes through that first fit?One way to test the relay is to swap the up and down relays around and see if the reverse happens. Not sure if the motor is long enough to hit the floor but you may want to check clearance or have somebody on the battery wires before experimenting so it doesn't drive itself into the floor!Relays are fairly inexpensive and I think a $20 bill and change would cover it.
