1995 Suburban heat smells

Recommended Posts

My heat smells. Defrost, floor, vents; any time the temp is set to warm I get the odor. Not the AC, just heat so I'm guessing it's not in the ductwork. I bought the truck about 5 years ago and it's been like this ever since.

What exactly does it smell like? Is it a musty smell or a kind of sweet smell? Do you notice that the windows fog up easy or take longer to clear than they should? Is the vehicle using coolant? More info would be helpful. Make/model/year of truck would also be helpful.

I would say musty is the best adjective. No fog, heats normal. Coolant is fine. I did change the thermostat 2 years ago. It's a 1995 Chevy K1500. Also the first time I turned the heat on was a cool fall day and a butterfly flew out one of my vents!

There is a product called Pure Air that they sell at Oreillys that may help with the stink.

Spray it in the intake up by the wiper blades with the heat on high. Also spray it in all the vents inside of the vehicle. It does a pretty good job of taking the stink away. Let it set for a while and air out before you use it again as it can be kind of strong.
