Nightcrawlers

[Ely Lake Expert]

I was just wondering if anyone is catching walleyes on nightcrawlers? I have been using minnows all spring, but with the last 2 wet nights I picked myself some crawlers. Hopefully the will be useful.

Ely Lake Expert,
I tried crawlers a couple of times and only had one fish on, a big fish, but never got to see what it was.
Save the crawlers you caught though as they may be working soon!

Put the crawlers in a 5 qt. ice cream pail with a few holes drilled in the top. Fill the pail 3/4 full with cardboard that has been soaked in water until it comes apart,drain off the excess water put the crawlers on top of the cardboard and they will crawl into the coaragations soak up the water and eat the cardboard the overstreched and sick ones will stay on top, discard them the rest will be in good shape for a long time if you put them in the refridgerator next to your favorite beverage. Change the cardboard from time to time if it gets moldy. I usually keep about 10 to 12 dozen per pail
