Rain gear

I am kind of and outwear freak so I have tried just about everything. I really liked my guidewear (waterproofness,

tuff fabric etc.) but honestly I was disappointed with the sewing. I had allot of problems with the interior linner seams ripping out so I returned them. I do work for the apparel industry and garment construction problems are the #1 customer complaint. I do give it to cabelas though as they looked at the garment asked if I wanted a new set I said no and they took it back no questions. and this was after something like 18 months or so. What I have now on a recommendation on this site is Gill. What they are is sailing rainwear. They make 3 levels protection (price) I have the middle ground and so far I really like the construction, materials etc. I will be giving them the the ultimate test this year as I run a 20" tiller on almost always big water, ML, LOTW, RL etc.

Couple years ago I bought a set of Cabelas PVC jacket and bibs, Similar to what they wear on Deadliest Catch. I like them and it cost me like $60-$70. If they get dirty I just hose them off. Downside is they dont breathe. Some guys cant wear that stuff, I like it. ONly time I got wet in them was when there was a sudden storm started hurling 40mph winds and sideways rain and 5-6 foot building rollers on Kabetogama. On the way back to the cabin I didnt button the very top button up by my chin, well I had to stand up driving becasue I couldnt see through the windshield, there was constantly a sheet of water on it, and there was constant water hitting me wheather it was waves crashing over the bow or rain comming in from the side. when we got back my whole front was soaked. If I would have buttoned all the way up I think I would have been fine but wont know for sure till the next time it happens I guess.

I swore I would never buy anything but Gore-Tex, and I still never will EXCEPT for Gamehide Typhoon Rain Gear. I got a great deal buying a couple jackets last year so I thought I'd try it. First time out was muskie fishing for 13 hours in a steady, heavy all-day rain and at the end of the day I was bone dry (I believe my avatar pic is from that trip).

I've read reviews and some guys like it better than their GuideWear because it's less stiff and every bit as good as Gore-Tex. I have the GuideWear bibs and Gamehide parka and I wear them guiding, fishing tournaments, and going out with friends or family...you can't go wrong either way.

That being said, I still have one of the parkas for sale if you are interested.
