PETA's latest idiocy

Here's the latest from tonights evening news:

There is now a movement afoot to allow individual animals to be represented in US courts by attorneys. This means that suit could be brought on behalf of a labratory animal by animal rights activists in the courts of this country. The activist being interviewed on TV said :
(I paraphrase) "Because the chimpanzee has the same cognitve ability as an average 4 year old they should be granted the same rights to legal redress as that 4 year old."

He is not alone in his views. Larry Tribe (Harvard Law) is in agreement. He saw no reason why animals should not be granted legal rights similar to humans, including the ability to sue for monetary damages!

In my opinion, this is the perfect example of why the animal rights movement is so insidious and dangerous. This law, if enacted, would allow animals to bring suit against their owners. Under current law animals are considered property. The jist of the story was how some wackos are trying to make the connection in the mind of the public between the terrible institution of slavery and the practice of using animals in medical testing.

Of course, the vast majority of folks will just laugh this off as the latest screwball idea of the PETA crowd, but it does scare me to think that this story is considered important enough to make the 5:30 evening news. Just imagine a world where your black lab has the same rights in court as you do! Think about being sued by your gold fish!

Worst of all, if a chimp can sue for financial damages, how far behind will the call be for the same rights to be given to farm animals, wild game, and fish?

Sssshhh. If my dog gets wind of this, I'll be serving him T-bones from the grill every night (of course only if the cow doesn't sue me first). I'll have to sell my kid just to feed him. Then my kid will turn around and sue the dog for stealing his bed. And if I know my dog, he'll counter sue in order to cover the court cost. oh man, stop me!

This ought to bung up the court system enough to cost all the tax payers a pretty penny. I'm sure every american would rather have our taxes pay the court appointed lawyers for "Fido" and "Fluffy" than protect the citizens from terrorists.

"Animals as slaves" Lets take a quick poll of all the PETA members that utilze a seeing eye dog, or ever required the assistance of a rescue dog. How many required serum from a snake bite? And then we'll ask how many are from another planet (I bet we get some takers on the last one).

All creatures of the Earth are created to serve man. Man, created in the image of God, has rights over and above all creatures of Earth. Reference the Bible.

so IF the chimp were to prevail in this suit...and there is any $'s left after the lawyer's cut....how and what will he/she spend it on?....Easy to get the chimp a credit card...so then a bank account?...some form of ID...then probably be able to vote, too. There are fundamental differences between humans and animals....reference the biblical quote above. Let's hope this one is thrown out!
