Lion's Mane Mushroom Question

Recommended Posts

My girlfriend bought me a Lion's Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus)growing kit, and I got it started and growing. Soon I'll have Lion's Mane mushroom to eat.

Once the clump I have is done producing, the mycelium (spores) are still active, according to the kit, and I can "plant" them in the wild to keep producing Lion's Mane. Problem is, the company won't tell me how to do this in their instructions. (They want me to buy their guide book.)

So, here is my question: once my Lion's Mane patch is done producing, does anyone know how I can transfer the spores to rotting hardwood in my timber? I would think it would be simple, but who knows...

I am not too sure at all.....but I believe the few that I have found in the wild were growing out of large fallen maple trees. So, maybe bore out a small cavity in a dead maple tree and hope that it takes.

Just a guess, hopefully someone else will chime in.

I LOVE MUSHROOMS.

I would get myself A chunk of oak tree. 3ft long and about 5 to 6 inches in diameter. Not a dead one either. Cant have rotten or diseased tree. Healthy one. Then get yourself a drill. drill some holes in that chunk of oak. About every six inches around whole log. Cut pieces of original lions mane log and stuff into the holes then cover those holes with melted cheese wax. Let sit. Hopefully that works. Wood cant be all dried out.
