Sealing thermal ice houses

cokeman

Question

I recently purchased a new Canvas Craft Norpac. Love it. While fishing in it at the Woods last weekend I noticed a tag inside that suggested using a seam sealer to help with waterproofing. Has anybody done this to their thermal, and if you have what would you recommend?

Seam Sealer is readily available at most Camping Dept at major retailers. Greatest benefit is to protect the stitched seams from gradual wear or stress from moisture, that may lead to tears or mold.

The Norpac insulation will not in itself deteriorate from use, yet seams are the greatest stress point and arguably should be maintained.

Before storing for off season storage, I recommend you set it up in direct sun and allow it to dry very well, clean the interior as needed, and again allow to dry fully and air out. This would be the best time to apply a seam sealer in prep for next season.

You may wish to see the Norpac web site for recommended maintenance and tips, and roll from there.
