03 Envoy Power steering

Recommended Posts

The power steering pump on the Lil Mrs 03 Envoy has been whinning for a while now and it is time to replace it before it goes completley out. She stopped and got one on the way home today. Bought a Chilton book also. My question is the new pump has no resivour and it appears that the old one does. Does ther resivour come off one and go on the other or is it a completley different piece? Can't tell by looking at it from the top and the book is not much help in that respect. Thanks for the help! Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

If the Envoy has a "P" vin it gets the one with no resivour. If it is an "S" vin it gets the one with the resivour. Well as luck would have it I have the wrong pump! Go figure! Oh well... if I can get the right one early enough tomorrow I can still get it done. take care././jimbo

If your getting aftermarket pumps they will probably be as loud or louder than the one your replacing.

I would try new fluid and an ounce of seafoam motor tune to see if that made a difference before replacing the pump. Especially if its an aftermarket.

1+ that.

After selling them for 7 years I got a lot of people telling me that the rebuilt pumps are whiny. I put one on my dads truck and ended up getting one from the salvage yard because it bothered me so much (he couldn't hear it cause his radio is so loud and he is hard of hearing).

If you get one from a salvage yard or the dealer it should have the reservoir attached. If you go for a aftermarket one its usually not much work to swap the reservoir over. Usually a bolt or two is all that hold it in place. Remember to lube up the oring with a bit of P.S. fluid before you attach it.

Already have the "new" one on and it is a lot quieter. I did discover that the resivour has to be removed from the old and put onto the new pump. Couple of big clips hold the thing on. yup lubed up the new "O" ring with PS fluid before installation. Works like a champ now! Have a good one././Jimbo
