Barrel Swivel

Yes, if you want lures like spoons, jigging raps, or even jig heads to not be spinning insanely down there, put a swivel up about 18-24 inches.

When you talk about switching out lures more quickly, are you referring to a Snap Swivel? I usually use a snap and barrel swivel with my spoons and raps. Snaps are nice, quick, and usually doesn't hurt your presentation.

I like to use them on my jiggin rods.8lb spider wire, barrel swivel, then leader of mono or flouro, then quick snap this keeps the braided from gettin twisted. quick snap is good changing jigin raps, spoons, jigs.

pretty much used them the way everyone else does and also on the perm shack rattle reels we would tie the upper line usally fly line to the barrel swivel then tine the gut line/leader of what ever we wanted to the other side. We used both barrel swivels and swivels with snaps for this
