Heading to Yoke lake

Recommended Posts

I fish many of the surrounding lakes with very good success. Usually we just use Yoke as a means to get to other areas, but last year 5 of us decided to give it a try. We hit many spots on the SE part of the lake but didn't even mark a single trout the two hours we were there. I know they are in there, and I have heard if you catch one it will probably be pretty nice. If you don't have good success there, I would do some exploring. Pipestone is tough to beat. When will you be up there? I'll be just a couple miles away in a few weeks. You will have a great trip, that area is fun! We just use 4" venom glow tube jigs with a 1/4 or 3/8 ounce weight. The last trip up there 6 of us got over 70 trout in less than 3 days fishing.

Never fished Yoke in the winter, did many a times during the summer growing up when I was younger. (spent 7 summers at Slippery Winds). Yoke was a tough lake to fish for lakers. Not many caught, but had some nice ones though. Mabey the winter time will be differnt? Let us know how you do.

Yoke is not worth wasting much time on for lakers. Groups over the years keep trying to get soe of the nice trout that are in there, but with no success. Pipestone and the surrounding lakes have just as good or better trout and are catchable. If you want to fish Yoke, I would reccommend trying for some of the big walleyes that are there. They would be easier to ctach than the lakers.

We have been going up there in the summer for years and we usually catch one to two trout per trip and lots of walleyes. I figure the walleyes won't be to hard to catch. We could make the trip to Pipestone but is it mostly a morning bite or is it all day you can find the active fish?

The bite is usually good all day, but seems to taper off towards sunset a little. The key to Pipestone is to leave the portables behind and hit every point and rockface that you can find, moving constantly. If you fish 10 minutes and don't at least see one, move on to the next spot. You shouldn't have trouble getting some fish. Have fun and let us know how you do.

We stay right on Yoke at my buddies family cabin. I really want to get into some trout up there. Hows is the trout fishing on Pipestone right in front of Happy landings. I don't want to go to far we are only going to have two days to fish.

You won't find any trout in thompson bay in the winter. The only time we stumble into one is in the early spring after the ice goes out. If you want to try trout on Pipestone you will need to go out past boulder island into the main section of the lake.

You can also try sullivan for trout, it is only a 3 minute ride north east of your buddies cabin.

His cabin is the one on the north at the sand beach. Trust me that sand beach is so nice to swim in in the summer smile. We are heading out in the morning and I will be back Monday night. Thanks for all the info everyone and wish me luck!! I will give a thorough report when I get back.

Fishing on Sullivan was pretty good. Lost alot of fish though they weren't hitting very aggressively. But did manage some beauts. Fished Pipestone on day it was slow but caught 1 nice one for dinner. We didn't really fish hard or serious we were just stoked to be up there. Good Luck up there NoWiser
