Jiffy 3500 series STX Pro II Problems???

Bandit155

Question

Anyone else had this problem?? I've had 2 brand new Jiffy STX Pro II's in the last week and I had to return them both because they won't start when cold unless you use starting fluid. They started when warm on half choke, but after I let them sit on the ice for 15 minutes or so they wouldn't fire up without starting fluid. I don't think I want another Jiffy so I guess Strikemaster is what's left if I can find one?? I heard Jiffy uses China-made engines now??

You should never use starting fluid on an ice auger, as it will very likely score the cylinder walls.

Prime and choke fully at a cold start should be all that is required.

Switch to ON ( I ), be sure to prime and short stroke the recoil, full choke, it should fire up...set choke to half...cold start allow to warm up 30 seconds to 1 minute...drill away.

A tip to break them in is this. Got this from a Jiffy Technician. wink

Fill half a tank of mixed fuel as per directions, remove the power head, place on top of a 6 gal pail with water in it sufficient to keep it stable....and start it up, wire or zip-tie the throttle open, and let it run tell it is out of fuel.

This will seat things in, and the starting problems will fade away.

Thanks guys,

I did everything mentioned in your posts, however the shop where I bought them from couldn't get either one to run from a cold start. The serial #'s were like 093 and 094 so they figure there was the same thing wrong with both units. Jiffy is sending two "new type" carbs for them. The dealer offered to replace them with a Strikemaster Lazer Mag 10" with a hefty discounted price so I took that. It starts and runs great and cuts great too. Thanks.
