Recommended Posts

lately in a few lakes by me the fish seem to have lockjaw. ive tried big to micro jigs, spikes and plastics, different colors bright to black, all the glow colors, rattles no rattles, horizontal, and verticle, silver and gold, i just wanted to see what some of u guys do when this happens, this doesnt happen often to me at the lakes i fish. i also move often, mod bite 15-20 holes, on a slow bite 60+

Step 1. Do just what you did.

Step 2. Change fish species and repeat step 1

Step 3. Eventually jig only if I see fish on the flasher.

Step 4. Quit looking at flasher and eventually shut it off.

Step 5. Start drinking beer and start planningtrip to LOW or

Upper Red.

One thing I have done is take the hook off a jigging spoon and put a 6-8 in leader below the spoon with a small hook and a minow head. The flash of the spoon brings them in then they can lazily suck in the minow head.

I keep a rod with small jiggin' spoon and stinger teardrop/waxie available. I like it for a crappie option, but will also use it to attract gills as well. Often bluegills will bite the teardrop/waxie, whereas crappies take the small spoon. Kind of neat to watch a blank screen show interested fish, then fish on. It isn't a sure thing, but is one technique that lands nice fish from time to time for me.
