my 6yr. old loves to fish as well. Usually he wakes me up in the morning and asks if we can go fishing only to be let down by the fact he has to go to school. But...he too has his own rod & reel with rod case. He also has his own lure box with lots of lures, ice scoop, and minnow scoop, but his favorite thing is his fishing lanyard with clipper, light, depth finder, and little measuring tape. He's been asking for his own Vex but I think we'll hold off on that till next year.

I hope there's a couple ideas in there for you. I also always throw in a shovel and a sled in case the fishing is slow. He'll go outside and always finds something to do with the shovel or sled.

Something that he would probably think is pretty darn cool would be an LED headlight. Obviously you know the benefits of it, but I think a young kid would love having one.

How about a Frabill Pail Pak, it is the wrap for the 5-6.5 gallon pail so he can organize his own gear. A bucket seat is good too, if the pail does not already have one. I'm 49, and the Frabill Pail Pak is still one of my most used ice fishing accessories.

Also maybe get him his own fishing diary, a fishing log book. He will enjoy keeping count of the catch and look back on it fondly latter on. An excellent tool to learn with and share memories with Dad.
