Where Are All The Sleds in the Western U.P.?

Put on 110 miles today and only saw 92 sleds in 5 1/2 hours around the Marenisco/Southern Lake Gogebic area. Trails were great, sun was out... a perfect day for snowmobiling. Why no people ? Is it because the Midwest has snow all over? The economy? The increse in trail permits to $35.00? Be curious to hear what people think. Also a reminder... make sure you have a Michigan Trail Permit (sticker) when you get into Michigan (as well as your registration). Trail permits are available via mail and on-line (I believe) from the Michigan DNR, some local outlets have been running out of permits, so plan ahead. Hate to see a fun trip ruined by a ticket !

Gas is $2.75 gallon and we have decent snow in MN are probably the main reasons people are staying local. I rode the North Shore in MN today and only saw 25-30 sleds during the 150 mile trip and it was groomed perfect the whole way on main the trail. I dont think many people are riding anywhere period. I used to see 100's on the shore on a nice weekend.
