suick lures

When I'm using a suick the action you want is up and down so you just tap it down( 6 to 12 inches). As far the retrieve speed I guess it depends on the depth for me. I use this lure when fishing thick weeds and I want to connect with the top of the weed cover. I never trolled with this lure. Its not my go to lure for muskie but one of my favorites for pike. I hope this answer some of your questions.

thanks for the info, just see a bunch of posts that have this lure in the discussion so i thought i would ask. i will be on leech for the muskie opener so this year (skunked last year) i want to go prepared. I do have some of the big double bucktails, so trying to get some other ideas as to what to use. thanks again.

Suicks are one of the greatest musky lures of all time! The ability to move the tail and get the lure to the desired depth is a key feature. They are fantastic to work in just about any cover.

I love them in the weeds, cause as soon as you feel the contact with the weeds, stop! Let the lure back out of the weeds and then give a sharp jerk. This will power them down between the weeds and the on the pause they will float back up through them. Great technique.

When I am on the rocks, I pull long and hard and try to drive the head of the bait right into the rocks themselves. You can bounce the lure into the rocks and then let it float up to clear the rocks and drive it down again. You will find that most fish will hit the bait while it is "backing up" off of the structure you just ran it into.

I always try and make sure I let the bait do a "death float" when I get it close to the boat. By that I mean, as you work your bait in, when it gets 5-7 feet from the boat, I give it a sharp pull and the just let the bait float all the way back up to the surface........you will be surprised how many fish you will see while doing this.

Great that you have big blades for opener, but I would look into getting some smaller blades too. Opener can be a tricky time and we have had our best luck on small baits. I am not saying that big blades won't work either, but my .02.

Hiya -

When I first started muskie fishing I totally didn't get Suicks. (This was something of a problem, because suicks, reef hawgs and eddie baits were the main jerkbaits a guy could find.) Couldn't figure out why a fish would bite one. I spent all kinds of time tuning the tail, and I worked the thing like crazy. Really wore myself out (especially considering I was using a 5'10" pool cue of a rod.) I experimented with all kinds of retrieves - fast, slow, long pulls, short twitches, letting it float up, reeling constantly and pulling...

They all worked. Eventually I came to the conclusion that for some reason, fish just eat the things. If you come up with a way to fish it that looks good enough to you to make you keep fishing it instead of changing lures, you'll catch fish on it. It's really that simple.

These days I fish Suicks like a toothpick with hooks - I pretty much just reel it straight in with a pull or twitch once in a while. I tuned it so it tracks straight and wiggles a little bit when I pull. That's about it. I fish it in heavy weeds a lot so I don't want it darting all over getting hung up. Fish do the rest.

Really - they're pretty hard to fish wrong.

As for Opener on Leech - smaller and faster... Leech lake fish like speed.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

LOVE Suicks. Great lure and family to buy from.

Suicks have caught a large majority of my big big pike in Canada at Nungueser Lake in Ontario that I visit a lot. My best is a perch Thriller weighted 9" or flat black. Used the BIG Suick last year adn while it did not get a lot of water time I did boat a few nice pike on it. IMO the 9" is the best size. Jerk, pause and repeat and figure 8 EVERYTIME at the boat. 50% of my fish come on the pause and 50% on the figure 8 at the boat. Love the Suick and it will love you back! wink

Loc: az ricquk what is considered too much? just curious as i released a ton of fish but did bring back between 2 of us 4 pike 4 walleye, 2 bass and 10 perch. we have eaten most of it but i could not even consider bring much more than that back. wish i could have had a muskie in the mix but that did not work out well.

I don't think you really wanted to keep one did you? Catch and release, man. grin

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
