mainbutter
I'm looking to pair up a MH spinning rod with a spinning reel with plenty of line capacity. I'm thinking of putting ~50lb braid on it.Does anyone have an affordable suggestion for something that'd work, ideally focusing on reducing line twist? There's nothing I hate worse than line twist. Nick Kuhn
Line twist is really a non-factor when you use braid. What are you chasing that you'd go 50 lbs? For a spinning rod I'd go with a lighter braid that is more flexible. There really isn't much reason to go heavier than 20-25lbs, the heavier braids are for baitcasters. mainbutter
It's going to be for tossing bigger bass and pike lures. The higher lb test is more for making sure I don't lose lures, as they're both time intensive for the ones I make and pricey for the couple of purchased ones. traveler
Big spinners that will hold up to big fish aren't cheap. I have a Quantum Cabo 60 that I use for some saltwater fishing, as well as muskies, big pike and sturgeon around here. I love it, but it's over 200 bucks. The next step down is the Boca, which gets very good reviews, around 130 I think. I did just get a wharehouse clearence catalog from the big C and they have Finnor Ahab's on sale for 130, half price. They've been around and the saltwater gys like them as well. I run 30 lb. braid on my Cabo...don't know if theres any need to go heavier... Nick Kuhn
Superlines are REALLY tough to break without a backlash situation, and you won't have that on a spinning reel. Going lighter on the line will let you get by with a less expensive reel. The leader will be taking most of the beating anyway.
