chad austin
I've got a '97 ZR440 and I am currently trying to change the bottom jack shaft/drive shaft bearings and I'm wondering if the bearings are pressed on or if I'm just gonna have to roll up my sleeves and use a big hammer to get the old ones off? Thanks again
ChuckN
Not pressed in, but they can be tight! The old bearings may be rusted in there like I've experienced.Spray penetrating oil around the area of the bearing, wait awhile to do it's thing and they should pop out. I just hope the bearings aren't seized to the driveshaft. I had that problem twice, and they had to be cut off. I hate that job...
hydro
If they are siezed to the shaft, just slice them off with a cutting torch. That used to be one of my jobs at the machine shop where I worked. It really works well if you know what you are doing.
chad austin
Thanks for the info guys, the bearings actually are no longer there just the inner race of the bearing so cutting it off should work. Thanks again
