avidfisher
I recently purchased a 1987 polaris 400. It will not idel it will run as long as you keep the gas pumping to it. Could this be a fuel filter or spark plug problem. Any advice would be appreciated.thanks brian
tonkapat
Since you just bought it and don't know how it was stored take the carbs off and make sure everything is clean. You most likely have clogged pilot jets. Check your mains, pilot, needle and seats. If your pilots are plugged more than likely your mains are plugged and you will burn the sled down. Clean the bottom of the float bowl also. I use ammonia and find it works better than carb cleaner. Others also use denatured alcohol. I just bought a used sled and didn't ride it until I pulled the carbs cleaned and reinstalled. Both mains and pilots were plugged bad enough to make it run like [PoorWordUsage] and not idle. Good luck
jigginjerk
tonkapat is right. The idle jets are plugged. If it stays running with the choke on or giving it gas then thats more than likely the issue. CLEAN THE CARBS!!
