Gear lube

Going to change the chain case lube in my XC 700SP and am getting mixed stories. Some say use any kind of gear lube others say get the Polaris brand. I have a bottle of 80w-90 is that to thick? not recommended? If it is ok to use than great if not I will make a trip.

I use synthetic, 10,000 miles and minimal chain wear.

I just put in a new one today just for safety sake. My buddy broke one last year at a high speed, he was ok but it wasnt pretty what happened to the chain case.

if i were you i would use the polaris brand. i have a 2003 XC600 and i have 6000 miles on it and i only use polaris brand oil, antifreeze, and chaincase. and it runs like a champ
