AaronM
How big is the difference between a 55# and 70# thrust trolling motor? Looking to put a transom trolling motor on a '99 Alaskan tiller. It's a Honda 40 HP on it so I hope to use that if it ever gets too rough out, but what would I be missing out on by the 15#'s of thrust? Looking specifically at the Motorguide Varimax. Thanks for any help!
Northlander
Big difference. One bieng one more battery needed from 55 to the 70# thrust. The 70# will last longer of course and give you more power. Is that extra battery weight etc. worth it to you?
MUSKY18
Like Northlander said, the 70lb is a 24v system compared to the 12v of the 55#. The 70lb will last much much longer than the 55 because you will be getting more thrust, using a much lower setting. Yes you have extra weight because of the extra battery, but it is definately worth it. With a 19 foot boat, i would go with the 70 without a doubt. 55 is much underpowered for that size of a boat.
