Coleman Max LED lantern

I was at Walmart last night and saw they had a LED lantern from Coleman that used 4 D batteries. Has anyone used this for ice fishing? It says it has 140 Lumens. I think I might pick one up and give it a try in my X2. They also had a hand crank one with a radio but the Lumens were a lot less.

They seem like they'd work quite well, but i've always shied away from them because I didn't want to deal with replacing the D batteries all the time. I suppose it wouldn't be that bad with a set of rechargeables?

I'd recommend checking out the HSO LEDs you can pick up off the HSOforum here, especially if you've got a vex battery to hook them up to, they'll really light up your X2.

I had a similar style like the HSO and ended up going with the UFO's from Northern which were a lot better. Only reason I was looking at the latern style was because it was on sale. I think I might pick one up to try it. As for the D batteries they should last quite a while since it is LED. Plus I have a buddy that can get me some for the right price.

the LED draw is pretty minimal, but with my experience the cold has been pretty harsh to battery life when using D cells. Probably because I pick up the cheapest ones I can find smile.

Let me know what you think of the lantern compared to the string LEDs that you used before. I'd be interested to know the results!
