Lowrance waypoint transfer to Garmin

deadeye

Question

I have a H2Oc that I love and I also have a Garmin Nuvi 500 thats begining to become near and dear as well. I pretty much use the nuvi for the car and the h2o for fishing.

I am curious what it would take to tranfer the waypoints over to the Garmin so when Im fishing out of the truck later in the season I don't need to take both.

I have Mapsource software for the garmin and Mapcreate software for the lowrance. I was able to transfer the waypoints from my old garmin etrex vista (using mapsource) to the H2Oc (mapcreate) last year when the garmin died. I am just having trouble going back the other way now. Its not a huge deal, but I do have some new spots that I would like to send to the Nuvi. I had the majority of the waypoints on Mapsource still from the etrex but the new ones i have marked with the H20C are potential ice hotspots.

It could be done by hand but I figured if someone has run into this before and knew, it would be worth asking. (there are no stoopid questions right!? grin)

There are 2 free downloads out there on the web, EasyGPS and GPS Trackmaker, either one should work great and save you LOTS of time.

Not sure if you have a data cable for your H2O or not, if you do, it makes it easy.

If not, dump your waypoints on the chip and you should be able to bring it into one of these programs.

I did this when I sold my GlobalMap 3300c, transfered those waypoints into both Garmin and Humminbird units. I also helped a friend transfer his waypoints from his old Garmin handheld to his new Nuvi 500, worked great.

Thanks!

I already got them on a card and on the hard drive so I should be set. Losing waypoints would be a real bummer so I try to keep them saved in a couple spots.

I guess I didn't know that such programs exist. That will be the first thing I do when I get home today.

I ended up using a program called gpsbabel. For whatever reason I could not get easygps to work going from lowrance to garmin. I could get it to go the other way around. Anyway I got my hotspots loaded into the nuvi so I should be set for ice fishing now.
