Power converter or on-board charger for fish house

Will an on-board charger do the same thing as a power converter when you run a generator on the ice? What about camping in the summer, when you have an electeical plug in? Can you use the battries and charge them at the same time with the on-board charger?

A battery charger is a power convertor. It converts 110 volt AC typical house power from a utility (or generator) to 12 volt DC to charge a battery or to power 12 volt DC devices.. A generator supplies 110 volt AC. You can also get 110volt AC by using a power invertor, operating from a battery. A power invertor changes 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC.
