Deadbolt

Hi- I want to put a more sturdy deadbolt on entry door of our house. Are there any places where I can get a deadbolt longer than the standard 1" ones? Looked at Menards, Fleet Farm, Home Depot, etc. but all they have are 1" and I think there are longer ones out there somewhere.. Thx.

Longthrow deadbolts are available but not commonly at big box stores, mostly only through a locksmith. The most I've seen is 1 3/8. One inch is plenty though, especially if you reinforce or fortify the door frame. I routered out and installed 1/8 x 3 inch plate the full length of the door jam. You would have to knock out the studs along with the frame in order to break in.
