Depending on what area you primarily fish the reception could be tougher than previous years now that essentially every broadcast is digital.

You still only need a VHF/UHF antenna to get digital signals but they'll be more difficult to pull in than the "old" analog signals.

Search the forums for this topic, there was a thread not too long ago with a link to a signal coverage map that was pretty imformative. we just put one on our house and if we pull it to the edge of town where there are no trees we got 11 channels, but in my driveway i only get one or two if im lucky. i figure thats pretty good considering i live around 70 miles away from most broadcast towers. i would think reception would be better on a lake as well.
