"tuning my call?"

I have a dead meat mallard foiles call. I have had it one year, and the reed is screwed up. What do I have to do to tune it? I flick the reed and it sounds great for a while, then back to garbly sounding again. I have some repacement reeds, will that do it?

i dont know how yours is set, but is there a band that holds the reed that you may have to slide forward or backward? are teh reeds clean?

I don't know...they look clean. Should I remove them to clean them up? I have been out in the rain quite a bit lately...between that and dirt I imagine they are gummed up a bit.

i have a cow elk call that is similar to that with the band and reeds, i have to take the band off and easily flip the reeds out and wipe them down from time to time. they get sticky from saliva and dirt. i dont ever take the reed out of the call

Change the cork on it! The reed should have the curved side down. This is done by bending the reed between your fingers it will only bend one way. The botton of the bend faces down on the tone board. Don't bend it to much when you check it.Good luck.
