Frabill speed shack repair

eyemaster

Question

I have a Frabill speed shack. The hinging system for the floor has gone bad. I am thinking of putting metal hinges on it to repair this. I am also thinking of putting an additional layer on the floor for insulation. Has anyone ever done that?

Any suggestions?

Had the same problem with mine, only had 1 hinge break off, was somewhat useable, but frabill had no way of repairing it and I simply upgraded to a new shack. I'm thinking you could do metal hinges and make it work, I thought for awhile of doing something like that but figured it was more hassle that I didn't want to deal with. Flooring wise, I simply put down some decent carpeting then used 2 sided 3m tape to hold it in place, was nice and warmth difference was definately noticeable. Good Luck

I have done the hinges on a clam before. No reason it wouldn't work for a frabill. I got the heaviest duty hinges they had at the hardware store and that was a wrap. Heavy bolts and washers helped too.

The house got very heavy use for at least 6 years after that and they worked as good as the day I put them on. It has been stored for about 4 years now but I wouldnt hesitate to take it out for a trip if needed.

Can't say much for the carpet as I never thought about doing that myself. My new houses are flip ups so its bare ice under my feet. Sure would be nice to have the floor with some carpet though. The feet have got to stay a lot warmer with that.
